Optical Bonding- Direct Bonding for Anti reflective properties, rugged LCD and harsh environments

Optical Bonding the technique of afixing the top cover glass or touch screen directly to the front of a LCD. The key to optical bonding is the filling of the cavity below the cover glass to the LCD.  This cavity is filled with a fluidic material which cures to a soft bonding adhesive between the cover glass and the display.  The material is formulated to be nearly an exact match to the index of refraction of glass; all but eliminating reflections from the internal surfaces.  The bonding material from GDS is a proprietary formulation that offers the following:

    *  Excellent adhesion and cohesion
    *  Indexe
d matched to glass; 1.47
    *  Low durameter

With the air gap removed and being perfectly matched to the index of refraction of air, optical bonding has the lowest overall reflection over other types of index matching.

Optical Bonding reduces Reflective Loss
Comparing Contrast Ratios- Before and After Optical Bonding
Contrast Improvements with Optical Bonding

•   Low reflective loss means higher contrast in high bright environments
             •  Display are daylight readable at 500 nits, sunlight readable at 800 nits

             •  Backlight power can be lowered to reduce overall power draw and less heat production
•   Lack of air gap eliminates “greenhouse” effect causing heat rise.

             •  Solid bond will conduct heat out of the display.

             •  Bonded displays will not "clear" (going isotropic) and turn black as quickly

•   No air gap prevents moisture from forming under the window

             •  Fog or clouding is impossible to form

•   No air gap prevents particles and contamination from collecting under the window

•   Ruggedizes the display

             •   Bonding material shock dampens the glass; minimizing brackage of both the display and the cover glass/touch screen

•   Safety

             •   If cover glass breaks; shards of glass are held in place and will not fall off the display.

•   Removeable Process

             •   Reworkable in process; yields are high

             •   Displays, cover windows and touch screens are fully recoverable

             •   Warranty and repairs are possible at any time.
